A Time of Self Reflection. As the events of Wednesday afternoon, February 14, 2018 began to unfold on TV at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, I
Holidays Are Not For Dieters
We all agree that staying away from sweets, starches, and salt is always good for our health, but there is a time for even the strong will person needs to splurge. My grandmother would makes these peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate that I absolutely loved, until I ate so many I got sick from eating too many as a 10 year. I have not eaten any since. I just replaced one goody with another. Now my favorite are those sugared pecans.
As I am writing this blog I am also taking a required online class for my health insurance called "Control Weight" on another tab. What kind of class is that to take at this time of the year? Really? Who wants to loose weight at this time of the year. Save that for my new year's resolution.
All kidding aside, we should all be self disciplined, not only in the area of eating and exercise, but also in every area of our lives. Self discipline is a part of our lives that we could all use a little help on. If you are planning to make a big purchase, such as a home, you will need to be disciplined enough to save for this purchase. Even with all the down payment assistance programs that are available, you will still need to have money for an inspection, appraisal, termite inspection and don't forget stuff like lawn equipment.
Open a separate account for your "House" money. Start saving by trying to cut one luxury item a week out. This can be cutting out Starbucks or cut the movie channels from your cable bill. Next, garage sale online. Get that stuff out of there. You don't want to move it any way. Sale it online before you have to pack it and stick that money in your "house" account. Another good one is casseroles. Yes, that is right, quit eating out. If you have to cook everything on Saturday or Sunday for the week and freeze it. This not only gives you supper, but left overs for work the next day. This savings will be huge. It won't be easy, but remember, in a few months you will be in a new home and it will all have been worth it.
